What Our Clients Are Saying

What is Mediation?
Close Consulting offers workplace mediation in Melbourne to help companies and organisations nurture a healthy and productive working relationship among employees. We come in as a third party to provide independent, impartial, and objective solutions to get to the bottom of conflicts within a company.
Having a mediator present to navigate disputes is highly efficient and cost-effective because you are able to avoid unnecessary litigation and claims that can further disrupt your operations. We offer flexible conflict resolution strategies to fit any type of issue that you are facing. Through this approach, we are able to resolve conflicts faster and help both the company and the people involved find a more peaceful path to move forward.
Why Do I Need a Mediator?
Conflicts are natural for any relationship, whether personal or professional. A simple difference in opinion may be easy to fix as long as both parties are willing to hear each other out and be open to compromise. However, there are issues that cannot be talked out or solved in one sit-down. These include bullying, workplace harassment, or even as general as people simply not getting along no matter what they do.
If you choose to let conflict fester, it could be harmful to your people and lead to trust issues, demotivation, lowered productivity, increased stress, and low morale. Employees might eventually resort to absenteeism, insubordination, and even resignation, which can create an unsafe work environment and greatly impact operations.
Undergoing mediation in Melbourne helps prevent these from happening because our main goal is to resolve your issues before they snowball into something bigger. We come in, observe and listen to everyone involved, and facilitate until all parties reach an agreement.

Free HR Support CallWhat to Expect in the Mediation Process
Since the mediation process is confidential, it only concerns the people involved. At Close Consulting, it’s important to us to have a safe space where everyone can share their thoughts and air out any grievances. Stakeholders of an organisation are also treated as external entities in this case, and thus, they are not part of the mediation process unless stated otherwise.
Here is a snapshot of our mediation process in Melbourne to help you visualise what happens.
Before Mediation
This is where all the preparations are done to help us see the full picture and learn all the necessary details that led to the conflict.
1. Our mediator will coordinate with a company stakeholder dedicated to this case to learn about the main issue that needs to be resolved.
2.Each involved party will be contacted for a preliminary consultation to ensure that mediation is necessary. This will help us get a better sense of the situation and if we would be requiring additional support, or if there are other considerations prior to the mediation proper.
3. Should all parties consent to the mediation process, we will then set a schedule for the mediation session and coordinate this accordingly to the parties involved.
During Mediation
Only our mediator and the parties involved are present for this session. We recognise the importance of having a safe space where the concerned people can be relaxed and free of any external pressures that may impact their position and opinions about the conflict.
1. Our mediator sets the agenda to provide a structured discussion between both parties. It is important to note that we do not highlight or suggest any specific topics during this conversation, and we are simply there to facilitate.
2. During this session, we let the parties decide what to discuss. This could be how their conflict started, what led to it, and how they felt about the situation. Again, the topics and pace would be out of their own volition. The discussion would eventually lead to the main objective of the mediation which is how they want to resolve the matter at hand.
3. As the facilitator, our mediator functions independently from both parties. Our position and presence here is to ensure that those involved can clearly communicate what they want to do moving forward as part of the negotiation.
4. To safeguard our role as the mediator, we are impartial to both parties and in no way, shape, or form will we offer legal advice, decide on resolutions, or even be an advocate for either of them.
After Mediation
The mediation proper will only conclude when the parties are able to reach an agreement on how they want to settle their conflict and move forward.
1. After the mediation session, our mediator will consolidate all that was discussed and formalise the agreement of both parties.
2. We will also reach out to the organisation and inform them that the mediation session has concluded. Since this mediation itself is confidential, we are not at liberty to divulge anything that was discussed or had transpired during the session.
3. Should we require further support or assistance, this is the only time when we will be able to do so to preserve our independent role during the proceedings.
Benefits of Mediation
You may consider mediation when you feel that the internal conflicts of your organisation are getting out of hand, or are proving to be more difficult to handle by both the management and human resources. It is always good to know when it’s time to call for help to diffuse a situation and avoid any further escalations that could affect your business.
Here are some of the benefits your organisation can get from our mediation service:
Creates and nurtures a harmonious workplace
At the heart of doing mediation in Melbourne, what matters most is having a workplace that is not only safe to work in, but also one where everyone gets along well. We cater to all employees regardless of position and number – it can be individual or in teams. No matter what the scale is, mediation helps mend and maintain a good working relationship among your company’s people.
Restores motivation to work
Mediation is also a way of showing that your company cares about its people as you want to be impartial and objective in resolving issues. After a mediation, it is expected that there will be a gradual boost in both motivation and morale for the parties concerned since both have already aired their grievances and a compromise has already been reached. It is safe to assume that, at this point, the issue has already been resolved and both can move forward and focus more on their work.
Covers a wide range of issues and conflicts
Issues and conflicts can branch out from anything like a simple disagreement to something serious and threatening. Among the issues we can help resolve are interpersonal conflict, differences in working style and communication, leadership, management of grievances, shift in work processes, change in work setup or arrangement, employment contracts, termination, bullying, and harassment.
Saves time and money
When you opt for workplace mediation, you are preventing further damage or disruption from occurring in your organisation. It saves time because a third party takes care of your mediation, making the process faster and more focused. It saves you money in a sense that there will be no need for further litigation, investigation, or claims since everything will be resolved through an agreement between the parties involved.

Mediation FAQs
When should you consider workplace mediation?
Mediation has many applications in the workplace. It can be considered when the concerned parties find it difficult to resolve their conflict due to resistance, fear of confrontation, or other reasons.
What is the main goal and purpose of a mediation?
The goal of a mediation is to have a third party come in and help conflicting parties reach an agreement or resolution. Mediators are objective, independent, and impartial, thus they only guide each concerned party in expressing their side on the issue at hand. This will allow both parties to find common ground and eventually discuss until they reach an agreement.
Is mediation a good thing or a bad thing?
Mediation can help resolve different issues and conflicts in a cost-effective way. It allows the parties involved to discuss and create solutions where they can agree and compromise on, which may not be possible if taken to court. However, mediation may not be effective should the parties concerned lack good faith or if one of them has access to more power or resources.
How is mediation a win-win situation?
A mediation can be considered a win-win situation when the parties involved are able to reach an agreement. In some cases, it can’t be avoided for both parties to feel that they haven’t necessarily “won,” but this also boils down to the agreement or compromise they have reached as a result of the session.
